This week has been catch up week for camp stuff! I am almost finished with the data entry on the campers. I will move on to the counselors this weekend, I hope. My other big goal for the week is to get a menu and shopping list put together for the TAC cooking class and shopping lists for the A-Tea(m). So far I have this menu, what do you think?

Monday:  (with Fr. Dn. John and Mat. Joanna Bohush)

Kolatchki

Pascha Bread

(Monday Afternoon class)

Prosphora

St. Basils Bread

Tuesday:  (with Alexandra Bilas)

Honey Cake

No Bake Cookies

Monkey Bread

Wednesday:

Piroshki

Tea Cookies

Thursday:

“Tatiana’s” Cake

Chicken Paprikash

Finish Tea Cookies

Friday:

Halushki

I’ll have something else for Friday but I haven’t decided what yet, I may just wait to see if there are left over supplies and just make whatever we can from whatever is left. Who knows?

Happy Memorial Day

May 22, 2009

Over the weekend I will be up in NY visiting family. On Monday, I will be up at St. Tikhons on Memorial Day, as usual.

Have a great Memorial Day everyone!

I hate to complain about the work week, it just seems so cliché. But here I am dragging myself through a Thursday planning what I am going to be doing after work to pack and get ready for a trip out of town instead of “work work”. Oh well. I am getting the same general vibe from everyone else in my office as well. I guess that is the result of nice weather and the forthcoming four day weekend.

Yesterday was very productive on the camp front. Nick, Kim and I had a conference call and discussed and hopefully resolved our staffing issues and the division of labor among the three of us. I am almost finished updating the camper database and I am hoping I can start working on the counselor information over the weekend. I also ordered an INSANE amount of tea for Afternoon Tea (which we are now calling the A-Team). I now need to buy filters, baggies (for tea they can take home) and all the other accoutrements that go with tea. So by Tuesday I would like the A-Team and the cooking class all set up and organized (theoretically). For the cooking class I recently decided that I want to have a nice set of utensils and supplies for us to use year after year instead of trying to use what is in the seminary dining hall and hoping for the best. That should drastically increase the quality of life situation in the cooking class.

Interesting Stuff of the Day

Web Link of the Day:

http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2009/03/one-mans-trash-.html

This whole concept in interesting. One mans trash is another treasure, of course is nothing new but to transform trash into an interesting object and watch it evolve from a gag gift to a coveted work of art. The comments introduce other information on unique and seemingly worthless items as art medium and their success in the market. The whole site is pretty cool but this one article caught my eye.

As of 5/19/2009 the Teen Program at St. Tikhon’s Summer Camp is full. Sorry

I am officially one week in camp mode and I feel that I have accomplished a lot. I am working a variety of staffing issues and scheduling issues, which is atypical but I have no doubt that we will over come them. I’m still in the process of updating all the camp paper work and my weeks to do list is jam packed with all sorts of little odd and ends. I want to have confirmation labels made, t-shirt labels made, the teen schedule finished, afternoon tea organized and at least the beginnings of a shopping list for the cooking class set up (but that would mean I need to make the culinary selections first…).

NCIS…..wow amazing season finale!

Interesting Stuff of the Day:

What I am reading:

Egyptologist by Arthur Phillips. I just started but it looks promising! Equal Rites turned out to be a nice diverting read. It took me much longer to finish it that is should have liked but it was a nice little story and I have been persuaded to continue with Terry Pratchetts Mort once I get to the book store again.

Web Site of the Day:

http://www.dumblittleman.com/

This fun little site had nice, short, and pretty interested articles on all aspects of life. Some may apply to your current situation some may not but they are still fun to read. They cover a range of topics from finance and organization to fitness and health. So dive in and enjoy!

Camp Update!

May 15, 2009

As I stated in my last update I have been e-mailing Mat. Dorothy Sulich at the seminary and she has updated me on our numbers for camp so far.

As of 5/12/2009:

Teens 26

Campers 17

Counselors 6

Of course the teen program will cap by Memorial Day like we always do but that is a very low camper number for this close to camp. Hopefully more will come between now and June 6th!!!
